Easy DIY Bobbin frame

Updated: Jun 4, 2024

We've all seen those colorful Bobbin frames over the last couple of years and wanted one! Of course I've always loved them but not the price tag. That was nothing a DIY couldn't fix.

The process is super simple:

Attach -

Superglue the cut wood balls to your frame. To ensure I had enough space all the way around the frame, I tested and placed them out to make sure I had even spacing.

Paint -

I used spray paint with built-in primer, although I think I would add this step next time just for good measure. You can hand paint which may take a little longer but allows you to pick any color you want versus what's only available in a can. If hand painting, make sure you also prime beforehand.

Protect -

I sealed the paint with Varathane Spray Triple Thick Polyurethane for durable protection a glossy finish.

This was a simple project and an affordable way of getting the bobbin frame I've always wanted. I will definitely be doing this project again in the future.

Here are the items I used -

Frame - Whatever frame you decide to use, measure the outside width of the frame to ensure the wood attachments you order are the correct size. You don't want too small or too big!

Print was from my Maui fundraiser.
